Solutions to Dry Hands

My hands are either very wet because they sweat a lot or it is very dry during cold weather. Right now, it is the rainy season and even if it is cold outside, A/C is always turned on at work and we also use it when we sleep at night so my hands tend to get really dry. Here are a few tips so solve it.

First is of course, treat the dry skin with these easy steps:

  1. Prepare an olive oil bath. Fill a bowl with lukewarm water. Add 4 Tbsp. olive oil to the water. Soak your hands in the bowl for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse your hands with tepid water. Pat your hands dry until just damp. Apply a light moisturizing lotion.
  2. Apply a coating of petroleum jelly to your hands before bedtime. Cover your hands with thin cotton gloves or cotton socks. Go to sleep and say goodbye to dry hands.
  3. Steam your hands. Cover your hands in petroleum jelly. Run hot water in the bathroom sink. Place your hands in the resulting steam and keep them there as long as is comfortable. Rinse and dry your hands.
  4. Buy an aloe vera plant. Cut off one of the leaves. Rub the leaf onto your dry hands to smooth and soften your skin. This is also a great home remedy for burns.

Then there is moisturizing your hands with these tips:

  • Use an egg yolk mask to moisturize dry hands. Scramble the yolk of an egg and apply it to your hands. Leave the mask on your hands for 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the severity of dryness. Rinse your hands with lukewarm water. Pat dry.
  • Massage almond or mineral oil into the skin as you would any other moisturizer. Allow the oil to absorb into your skin without rinsing.
  • Wet your hands with water. Shake off the water without drying your hands. Rub honey over your hands. Wait 5 minutes. Rinse under lukewarm water. Pat dry.
  • Place 1 tsp. granulated sugar into the palm of your hand. Add a few drops of castor oil and enough lemon juice to moisten. Rub your hands together for several minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. As an added bonus, this mixture also removes stains from your hands.
  • Soften your chapped hands by mixing 1/4 cup of cornmeal, 1 Tbsp. water and enough apple cider vinegar to make a loose paste. Rub your hands together for 10 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.
  • Combine equal parts tomato juice, lemon juice and glycerin. Massage into your hands. Rinse and pat dry.

You bet I will try these for my hands. ;)

Steps for Better Skin

I had a very flawless skin when I was in high school up until my early years in College, but my genes kicked in and my hormones got wild and now that I’m in my 30s I’m still in search for the best acne treatments around. My Husband actually told me the best line he can ever give me, that I will always be beautiful just the way he saw me years back when he first met me. Just as I would be contented of that, but searching for the best for my skin is not for him but for myself, so as to gain back my self confidence. Anyway, right now, I’m using the soap that my Dad gave me, and it’s helping me and somehow is giving me wonders but I still get pimples once in a while and the marks are still there which I use the creams that my online friend recommended. I also found this which I think I will try to follow and observe the improvements…

  1. 1. Consider Your Water - And tailor your skin-care products accordingly. “Soft water doesn’t remove soap well, so it can leave a residue on your skin,” says Susan H. Weinkle, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of South Florida, in Tampa. If your water is soft, use face and body cleansers sparingly (no more than a nickel- or quarter-size amount, respectively). Hard water, on the other hand, doesn’t allow washes to lather easily, prompting you to use even more cleanser, which can cause dryness. Gentle, nonsoap formulas, which aren’t meant to lather, can minimize this, says Carolyn Jacob, a dermatologist in Chicago. To check the water quality in your area, log on to the Environmental Protection Agency’s website (epa.gov).
  2. Drink Green Tea - If your complexion is red or blotchy, this tea’s anti-inflammatory properties can be soothing,” says Andrea Cambio, a dermatologist in Cape Coral, Florida. “Iced is best because hot beverages can worsen redness and other symptoms of rosacea.” Another benefit: The epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea may help prevent the collagen destruction that leads to wrinkles as well as sun-induced DNA damage in the skin (think lines and discoloration), according to some experts. Consider subbing tea for your morning mug of coffee.
  3. Keep Stress in Check - It takes a toll on nearly every part of your body, including your skin. In a study conducted at Stanford University, researchers found that during exam time, students who felt stressed had more severe acne breakouts than did those under less pressure. That’s because stress increases the body’s production of hormones such as cortisol, which can make skin oilier and decrease its ability to fight off acne-causing bacteria, says Lisa Donofrio, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the Yale University School of Medicine. To keep that frazzled feeling under control, regularly practice stress-management techniques, like yoga, deep breathing, and meditation. This “can help conditions such as acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and seborrhea,” Donofrio says.
  4. Improve Your Air Quality - Avoiding smoky environments is smart, since “just being around smoke can lead to the release of free radicals that damage skin and hasten aging,” says Diane S. Berson, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, in New York City. Other indoor pollutants can adversely affect skin, too. Change the air filter in your furnace regularly, and if you cook with oil, use the fan over your range. Also keep in mind that dry indoor air can dehydrate skin and make fine lines more noticeable. Run a humidifier in your bedroom to minimize these problems.
  5. Switch to Plain Toothpaste - Those with tartar-control ingredients or added flavors, like cinnamon, may contribute to a common skin condition called perioral dermatitis. It looks like pimples, redness, and scaling around the mouth, says Donofrio. Use a basic paste instead, like Crest Cavity Protection Toothpaste ($4 at drugstores). Note: If you suffer from this problem, see a dermatologist for antibiotics to clear it up.

Keeping It Moisturize

As much as my skin gets very oily on a hot humid day, it can also dry up very fast when exposed to dry and cold weather and since we will be staying in a very cold weather for 4 days, I am actually looking for possible face moisturizers that can keep my skin moisturized. I actually came across this article about moisturizers.

How long does a moisturizer stay good?

Most skin-care products, even those with natural ingredients, contain preservatives to keep them fresher longer. “But like anything in nature, even preservatives lose their optimal function over time,” says Fran E. Cook-Bolden, a New York City dermatologist. When it comes to body moisturizer, throw away unfinished containers that have been open for more than two years. (If you’re using a lotion on a regular basis, though, odds are you’ll need to replenish it before it expires.) An expired lotion doesn’t hurt or damage skin, but the product won’t lock in moisture or hydrate as thoroughly. Sealed and unopened bottles should be good for three years.

And since I don’t use moisturizer very often, I have to learn more about it, I don’t want to use it for just 4 days and get pimples after using it.

Body Brilliance

Aside from my face (skin) regimen, I trust this to moisturize my skin…

To tell you frankly, I’m really lazy in moisturizing my skin. I actually have sweaty palms and feet which is why I am really not fond of putting lotion in the morning after shower especially now that the weather is so hot and the skin tends to get sweaty and sticky but since I most of the time stay inside an air conditioned room, my skin gets wrinkly and dry. I was advised to just put lotion in the evening before going to sleep and though I’m still lazy in doing this, when I put the VMV Body Brilliance, I can see the result right away and when I was so religious in putting it on every night for about a week and I experienced really smooth soft skin everyday. But I need discipline because right after that one week, I came back to my old self again, being lazy. LOL. :P

Skin Care Buddy

Every woman has her skin care buddy, mine maybe is a bit pricey but nevr failed me eversince I used it.

It’s the Obagi Nu-Derm Skin Care System

Obagi is one of the most recognized names globally in skin health care and the preferred choice of Physicians around the world for prescription-strength product lines that Transform skin. I first knew about this product when I walked in at Belo Medical Group in Greenhills with my sister. I was engaged back then and had breakouts everywhere so my Dad told me that it will be my wedding gift, he will provide the skin care procedure I will have to eliminate my pimples and lessen my pimple scars before my wedding day. The dermatologist recommended Obagi, it was priced at 17K back at 2005 for a set and I was abit skeptic of using such expensive product so I told this to my Dad and didn’t expect that he will say okay. Well, it’s my special day, I should look nice, he said.

So I came back to Belo and had a facial and bought the Obagi set. After using it for a week, I can already see the difference. My skin was tight, oily but not too much just enough to make it shine, a bit rosy but not too red just like when you use those astringents that will make your face so red and it was micro peeling all over but you apply the #4 to hide those skin peels. Since I was in a rush back then, I had to combine the Obagi with a facial with diamond peel every other week. The diamond peel helped in eliminating shallow scars and making my pores less visible.

Today, my husband allowed me to spend on Obagi. He saw the results before though I only have diamond peels once in a blue moon and facial every other month. I love how Obagi is helping me. I just hope I have more savings in the future when I need a new set. :P

Dryness

I’m used to having pimples on my face but when my body has problems, that’s too unexpected. Lately, I’ve been experiencing dry skin. You can say that I’m not a religious applier of lotion. I’m the kind of girl that taking a few minutes in the shower will be fine. I don’t hang around the bathroom applying this and that. I used to apply lotion and cream on my tummy when I was pregnant though, my OB advised me to apply it regularly since pregnant women have dryer skin. I’m not pregnant but my skin is often itchy now that it’s so dry. Finding the best lotion for me is like finding horse supplies that I never know of. Yes, it was hard that is why I just relied on the Shea Body Butter from Body Shop that I used to use when I had my so dry pregnant skin and I must say, right decision!

Dry to very dry skin with up to 24 hours moisturation. Your skin gets the royal treatment with three additional Community Trade ingredients: cocoa butter from Ghana, babassu oil from Brazil, and beeswax from Zambia. And I have to take note of the smell, I really love its fragrance.
